Join us for an exciting, colorfully graphic portrayal of the role military medicine and professional nurses have played during times of war and conflict. From the crusades and the first military nursing order to the Revolutionary War, World Wars, Korean and Viet Nam conflicts, and more recently 9-11, Iraq, and Afghanistan, nurses have served tirelessly and courageously. Standards for nursing education and practice have been significantly affected and improved due to national war and conflict. Dr. Linda Smith has put together a presentation to tell of the heroic healthcare professionals who have given so much while serving those who serve.

About Dr. Linda Smith:
Dr. Linda S. Smith comes to you with many years of teaching, research, and clinical applications of nursing. She earned a 1998 PhD in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), a M.S. in Community Health/ Chronic Disease Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a B.S.N. from Alverno College. Linda has served on the policy-making advisory committee for medical devices with the FDA. Smith holds numerous honors and distinctions including Southeastern Wisconsin’s Educator’s Hall of Fame, the Humanitarian Award from the US/Russian Friendship Society; and the Doctorate-Nursing Deans Award (one award per year), UAB. The Oregon Health and Science University awarded Smith the Distinguished Faculty of the Year Award. Smith has published extensively on history, policy, education, clinical, and cultural issues.
Dr. Linda Smith has passionately studied the history of military nursing for over two decades. She is the author of the 1995 article, “History of American military nursing … American military nursing began with the birth of our country,” Journal of Military Nursing Research, 1(2), 12-13.
